Social Justice Committee

The  Social Justice Committee provides information to promote civic engagement in the community and to advance public policy that will help improve the circumstances of women and families of African descent. The Queens County Section is registered as a National Voter Registration Day partner. Our members provide vital information regarding voter registration and assist with the registration process during voter registration drives. The committee has established an ongoing partnership with York College and Queens College to register students who are newly eligible to vote and also attends voter education events at high schools to educate students about the importance of voting. Section members are actively involved in providing community education about the Census and have participated in phone banking events to increase the number of Southeast Queens residents who complete the Census form.

“Civil rights are civil rights. There are no persons who are not entitled to their civil rights. We have to recognize that we have a long way to go, but we have to go that way together.” Dorothy Height
