Health

The Health Committee educates individuals and families about the availability of health services and coordinates a variety of community health events to provide updated information and free health screenings to families throughout Southeast Queens. The health committee has coordinated “Keeping Communities Alive & Healthy”, a forum which offered free cardiovascular screening and mammograms in addition to presentations on autoimmune disease, stress management, diabetes, nutrition and mental health.

Additional health activities included participating in National Go Red Day and organizing “Every Beat of the Heart” to highlight the impact of heart disease on women, as well as ovarian cancer and disaster preparedness workshops. Our “Power of Pink!” breast cancer awareness forum included experts who educated participants about current cancer screenings, diagnosis and treatment options, stress reduction techniques, breast self- exam demonstrations, cancer-related resources and a ‘Circle of Life’ celebration of survivors. The committee also participates in health events coordinated by community partners.
