Youth Section
“We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends.”
Mary McLeod Bethune
The goal of the Youth Section is to prepare adolescent females for leadership roles and help them to develop a strong sense of self-resiliency, life skills and social skills. The youth members meet monthly and participate in workshops focused on bullying, health care, healthy relationships, self-esteem, knitting and jewelry making. They learned to make head wear for cancer patients and donated the items to a local cancer specialist for patients undergoing treatment. In October, the Youth Section members presented ‘Unmasking Our Talents’ where they displayed their personal gifts through poetry, dance, hair styling and art. They also shared what they learned as a result of participation in the Queens County Youth Section.
